After impressing in the youth teams, she is now training with the first team and receiving regular game time in her preferred position as a 2nd row forward. She will continue to train and play for Widnes Vikings alongside the programme.

Amy will be joined by twenty-nine other candidates selected nationally to participate in the programme and will train in an elite environment, whilst continuing to complete her full time A Level qualifications in Biology, Maths and P.E.

With huge aspirations of becoming a P.E teacher, Amy is also taking part in the College’s Tomorrow’s Teachers scheme in College where she will develop her knowledge of the teaching profession and have access to invaluable work experience links.

Amy commented on the programme, “I am over the moon to have been selected players for this fantastic programme. To be able to complete this Diploma alongside my A Levels is absolutely fantastic, I can’t wait to get started.”

Sports and Physical Education Tutor at Cronton Sixth Form Faye Gaskin, who also represents St Helens and England in Rugby League said, “This is fantastic news for Amy who has deservedly been accepted onto the Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme. Having seen her playing in the College Rugby team it is clear to see that Amy has great potential and could one day take her career to the highest level with England.”
