Sixty five year 10 pupils from some of Cronton Sixth Form’s partner schools including; The Grange School, Wade Deacon High School, and St Gregory’s Catholic High School, recently took part in a series of masterclasses at the College, designed to help prepare for life at college and progression to one of the country’s top universities.
During the ‘Gifted and Talented’ event, pupils enjoyed taster sessions choosing from Science, English Literature, Psychology, History and Geography, each delivered by Cronton’s highly experienced teaching staff.
Progression to the best universities has become increasingly competitive and entry into the top professions demands that students can demonstrate high level employability skills. Cronton Sixth Form has developed the Prestigious Universities Programme, working with students from year 9 and then throughout their time at Cronton Sixth Form, to provide them with the depth of skills and experience needed to prepare for entry to Oxbridge and other prestigious universities.
Dr Luke MacMahon, History tutor and Head of the Prestigious Universities Programme said, “As ever, it was incredibly rewarding to work with so many Gifted and Talented students from Cronton’s partner schools. The feedback from all the teachers with whom they studied highlighted both the students’ enthusiasm and academic ability. However, for me the most satisfying aspect of the whole morning was to see the self-belief of the students and the clear determination of so many to study at Britain’s premier league universities.”
